Kind flight attendant soothes autistic boy, 5, who had meltdown on plane

A kind-hearted flight attendant found a way to soothe a 5-year-old autistic boy with a rare genetic disease after he had a meltdown on a plane.

Sonja Redding said her son, Xayvior Johnson, can get aggressive and may even gouge eyes amid emotional outbursts.

The mother said her son began having a meltdown on a flight to Washington DC, which is when Delta flight attendant Amanda Amburgy jumped in to help.

Redding wrote about the incident in a post on Facebook, saying: It felt like everyone on the entire plane was looking at us and annoyed by my sons outburst.

It can feel very frustrating and isolating when others just dont understand that he is not just a kid with no discipline, but rather a child with special needs who doesnt know how to control his responses to things.

She also said her son has Methylmalonic Acidemia (MMA) which is a life-threatening genetic disease that causes acid buildup in the blood.

There is no cure to the disease and Redding said she, her husband, Xavyior, and their eight-year-old daughter were returning home from a trip for medical research.

My son was diagnosed with autism on this trip. He has meltdowns in public often, and usually people just stare or make rude comments, which is why Im was so moved by her compassion!, Redding wrote because she did not know Amburgys name at the time.

While on the plane, Xayvior began having a meltdown. To Reddings suprise, Amburgy hurried over and asked to hold the child, then carried him down the plane as if nothing was amiss.

This hero gave us a bit of sanity back in a chaotic moment. When they came back, Xayvior was much more calm and he just loved on his new friend so happily! Redding wrote.
