Laila the 23-pound cat had no problem being obese – and even clawed at one health worker who tried to force her to walk on a treadmill.

The portly pet was filmed attempting to sit on the running machine, and then turning around in a huff to scratch a woman who gently nudged her along.

But Lailas owners Lee and Sidney Ferinden, who live in Orlando, Florida, were so concerned for her health, they sent the cat to a local boot camp to slim her down.

She attended the camp at the University of Florida once a week.

Laila was made to exercise in a variety of different ways, and even ordered to swim.

The Ferindens found Laila as a neglected stray, when she was half-starved to death.

That bad start to live gave the kitty an insatiable appetite, with her owners saying she was obsessed with food.

Laila ended up stuffing her face more than necessary, and got to the stage where she couldnt jump, and was too lazy to respond to her owners calls.

Since starting boot camp, Laila has made considerable progress, and now has far more energy.

And she will even walk along the treadmill contently for longer periods of time.
