Mans hand is reconstructed after being mutilated in crushing machine

Graphic images have shown how a mans hand was incredibly sewn back together after it was mutilated in a waste machine.

The victims thumb, little finger, the tip of his index finger and a large chunk of his palm were ripped off, following the accident in Samut Prakan, central Thailand.

He severed numerous nerves and ligaments after his hand got caught in a huge press used to condense plastic waste into a cube.

But paramedics on the scene managed to recover the damaged fingers, which were later sewn back together after 13 hours of surgery at Chulalat 3 hospital in Bangkok.

Despite managing to completely reconstruct the patients hand and sew it back together, he was still unhappy with the results at first.

Speaking on July 11 about the operation for the first time, Dr. Wichit Siritattamrong said the patient asked him Why didnt you attack my index finger?

Dr Siritattamrong, an orthopedic hand and reconstructive microvascular surgeon, said: It upset me a little bit when the patient asked me about his index finger.

Then I showed him the picture of his hand before the surgery and he realised how lucky he is to be able to use his hand again.

After that he was grateful to all the team who had just saved him from being handicapped.

The doctor performed the surgery around three years ago but only revealed the details of it on July 11 while discussing some of his career highlights.

He said the man has been able to use his hand since the accident and has had no complications since.
