Steph McGovern apologised to a family after an online row by inviting them onto BBC Breakfast and sniffing their bins.
The 37-year-old star, who is pregnant with her first child, had brought Katrina and daughter Bridget from their home in Warwickshire after complaining that their bin initiative must smell on Monday mornings show.
After apologising to them, Steph gave the pair – who have 12 bins outside their home to help neighbours effectively recycle – a chance to talk about their initiative on air.

The Nuneaton mother-daughter duo then got their apology in person, with Steph sniffing the bins herself to prove that she was wrong.
Having a whiff of one of their bins, Steph explained: The Barker family rightly sent me a tweet telling me how wrong I was.
They invited me down to have a look at their bins, have a sniff of their bins, but instead, Ive brought them here with their bins so I can find out for myself.
Thanking them for coming all the way to London studios with one of their bins as definitive proof, Steph assured viewers that they did, in fact, not smell.
What a way to start your morning.

On a more serious note, Steph then added: This is not all about the smell is it, that was just me being a bit rude. Apologies.
I guess there is a price to pay for being a bit harsh live on air – though you cant help but feel for the Barkers having to lug their wheelie bin all the way back to Warwickshire after.
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
