Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Danny John-Jules encouraged Mike Bushell to sign up for this years series despite being embroiled in behind-the-scenes drama
The Red Dwarf actor, who recently told Metro.co.uk that he believes the BBC was behind the Amy Dowden bullying claims on last years show, revealed that he told the sports presenter to take the plunge.
The thing about Mike, we had to have that conversation, Danny told us in a sitdown interview. You wouldnt be classed as a friend, youd be bullcr*pping basically.

Funnily enough, we had the conversation at his wedding. Obviously, hes not gonna not say that hes doing it and have me find out in the press, because thats silly.
Before he actually signed, he was like, “Whats it like? Did you have a good time?” And I said to him, “Mike, do it. Its a great experience. The dancing and all of that, the performance, on the night, the cheering, thats showbiz. The rest of it you can keep.”
Danny told us that he thinks the show will be a walk in the park for Mike too.
The physical side of Strictly is going to be easy for Mike Bushell because hes into sports, he continued. Mike has done much harder things than Strictly if you look at what hes done in those little clips that hes done in sports.
For me, Mike is the perfect competitor because what youre gonna get with Mike is 110%. Hes going to go at it 110% and thats all that you can ask from the man.
Danny, whos gearing up to play Sammy Davis Jr in his one-man show Ive Gotta Be Me, added that although hell be supporting Mike, he wont be tuning in to watch him.
If I mention anything about the show it will be taken the wrong way, he said. If I say something negative, theyll say its because Im bitter.
