Catherine Tyldesley has been given a helping hand in her Strictly Come Dancing training by husband Tom Pitfield…but she is far from taken with the gym.

The former Corrie actress is getting Strictly ready and recruited husband Tom, who she married in 2016, for a little bit of help to get her to her strongest.

Naturally, the marriage banter has definitely not helped, and it turns out shes like us and is not on board with the whole gym thing – and has to dunk herself in ice baths after sessions.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of the show launch, Catherine laughed: He thinks this is hilarious. A few weeks ago, cause Ive only ever done weight training really, he was like “we need to get you fast on your feet, lets get you in, do a bit of cardio”.

We did literally a handful of sessions and he was like “now go fast” and I said, “no this IS fast” but apparently youre built with fast fibres or slow fibres, she said. I think mine are extra slow.

Jamie Laing, who has since had to pull out of the show due to injuries of his own, tried to big her up and give her a boost, and added: Cath is really good though, I promise you, shes just got swagger, she walks in and every girls like “here she comes”.

I just think its cause Im bottom heavy, she joked back.

With Strictlys launch show airing tonight, Catherine has now been partnered with her pro for this years competition – with the viewing public seeing who it is in tonights episode.

Whoever it is, Catherine has made sure shes fully ready for the what lies ahead, calling in old pals who have competed on the show for tips and tricks.

I spoke to Gemma Atkinson and was like “babes, help me out”, she told us. She just said “only thing to do is let go of your inhibitions and enjoy it”.

Everybody else who I know has done the show has said the same thing.

But there have definitely been some benefits to this new super-active life, as she added: Also, [Gemma] was like “look after your body, eat as much as you can, sleep as much as you can.”

So far shes right because I cant stop eating. Burning so many calories, living my best life.

While the glitz and glam of this years contestants being seen hitting the dancefloor for the first time is exciting the launch show will now be bittersweet after the last minute departure of Jamie Laing.
