Katherine Kelly has revealed why theres a delay to the third series of Happy Valley, explaining how theyre waiting for a certain actor to grow up.

The 39-year-old actress, who plays DI Jodie Shackleton in the BBC series, has confirmed a third series of Happy Valley is still in the pipeline, although theyre waiting for young actor Rhys Connah, who plays Ryan Cawood, to grow into his teenage years.

Speaking to Digital Spy about creator Sally Wainwrights plans for the next series, Katherine said: Season 3 is happening but Sally [Wainwright] is waiting for Ryan to grow up…

So shes hanging on because it will be really interesting to meet him as a teenager to see how much of Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) is flooding in his veins, no matter whatever Catherine is trying to do about that.

Speaking at the premiere of Gentleman Jack, Sally said: There will be a third Happy Valley, I dont know when, but its always been the plan that theres a third one.

While its unclear when Happy Valley will return, judging by the quality of the first two series, itll likely be worth the wait.
