NEW DELHI: Criticising home minister Amit Shah's recent statement on the National Register of Citizens, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind general secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani alleged that it seemed only Muslims would be kept in detention camps in Assam.
Madani cautioned that if that happened, then it would bring bad name for India and would give a tool to inimical forces bent upon tarnishing the country's image.
He was referring to Shah's speech at a rally in Kolkata on October 1 where he said the government would "throw out all infiltrators one by one" by enforcing NRC while simultaneously clarifying that no Hindu, Sikh, Jain or Buddhist needed to worry because they would be accorded Indian citizenship with passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
