MUMBAI: Shiv Sena on Tuesday indirectly asked Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to step down by terming him the “outgoing chief minister” in an editorial in Saamna, its mouthpiece. It also accused Fadnavis of creating issues in government formation so that he could retain power “unconstitutionally”.
Sena MP Sanjay Raut also reiterated that the next CM would be from Sena. The paper, of which Sena president Uddhav Thackery is editor and Raut the executive editor, said, “The people of Maharashtra have given a mandate, and after landing in Mumbai (from New Delhi), Fadnavis has to move a step ahead.”
A legal expert, however, said Fadnavis continuing as CM was not unconstitutional. Advocate Ujjwal Nikam told TOI that until the new government comes in and a new ministry takes over, a person in the current government, including the chief minister, works as caretaker, which is not an unconstitutional act.
