BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BJP parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday, pleasantly surprised members by heaping praise on chief minister BS Yediyurappa and the state BJP unit over the saffron partys resounding performance in the byelections.
At the meeting, just before the start of the Lok Sabha session, Modi raised the subject and asked all MPs to give Yediyurappa a standing ovation.
“We all should congratulate Yediyurappa for giving the party such a resounding victory. It calls for a celebration. You (MPs) should distribute sweets,” law and parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi quoted Modi as telling party MPs. The praise was cheered by MPs, who stood and applauded.
When Yediyurappa was sworn in as CM for the fourth time — courtesy the resignation of 17 Congress-JD(S) MLAs — Modi had neither wished him nor commented on the party coming to power in Karnataka on a public forum.
