NEW DELHI: In a meeting with state education ministers on Tuesday, Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal directed the states to start evaluating the answer sheets of the board exams of classes 10 and 12, and facilitate the CBSE.
He also announced the Centres decision to increase its annual allocation for cooking costs of midday meal schemes by Rs 800 crore from Rs 7,300 crore to Rs 8,100 crore and said meals will be provided to students in schools even during the summer break in view of the lockdown. Providing MDM during summer holidays will entail an additional expenditure of about Rs 1,600 crore from the Centre. In addition, under the MDM scheme, an ad-hoc grant of Rs 2,500 crore is being issued for the first quarter.
He informed the delegates of the decision to relax norms under the Samagra Shiksha scheme allowing states to spend the balance of the previous year which is around Rs 6,200 crore, besides issuing an ad-hoc grant of Rs 4,450 crore for the first quarter.
