SRINAGAR: Ten months after the nullification of Article 370, the Army, in a letter to the J&K government, has sought permission to acquire 129 kanals or 16.12 acre of land at Tapperwari village in the Pattan area of Baramulla district. This, significantly, is the Armys first letter of interest to buy land after the central governments move on the Article.
The Armys 19 infantry division ordinance unit sent the letter to the government on May 26. “Some troops of this unit are temporarily stationed on your land at Kareri High ground near Tapperwari village. It is requested to inform your wish to sell the land to the Indian Army,” the letter reads. The Army has requested the government to reply by May 30.
Pattan tehsildar S Salahuddin has feigned ignorance about receiving any such letter from the Army. Sub-divisional magistrate Syed Naseer Ahmad, however, said that it is only a letter of requisition. “I dont have any fresh information about the letter. According to the last communication, it is a letter of requisition,” he said.
The letter, incidentally, has already gone viral on social media with netizens describing it as a fallout of the nullification of Article 370.
