KATE GARRAWAY will return to Good Morning Britain on Wednesday following the news Derek Draper emerged from his coma after contracting coronavirus in March.

Kate Garraway has been absent from Good Morning Britain since March after her husband Derek Draper was admitted to hospital with coronavirus symptoms. Derek has been battling the disease in intensive care for the past three months but following the news he has awoken from his coma, it has been confirmed Kate will return to GMB this week to give a further update on his condition.

Kates co-host Piers Morgan confirmed the news today as he announced to viewers hell be chatting to Kate alongside Susanna Reid.

“The papers are doing a lot of coverage today on our colleague and great friend Kate Garraway and the situation involving her husband Derek,” Piers began.

“Its probably not quite as positive a story as the papers perhaps believe so weve got a little clarification from Kates representatives.”

It read: “These headlines make sight of a level of optimism that may not yet be justified.

“We hope as does Kate there’ll be more evidence of a recovery but itll be a very slow and uncertain path.”

“We will hear more from Kate when she joins us later in the week, Piers continued.

“Were going to talk to Kate on Wednesday I think before we go off for the summer and she will have something Im sure to say about this.

“But its certainly premature at the moment to think Derek is in any way out of the woods sadly on this and he remains in a very serious and critical condition.”

It came after Kate explained she was urged by health care professionals caring for her husband not to put her life on hold.

“They’ve told me that I need to go back to work and create a routine in our lives again,” Kate told Hello! magazine.

“The children and Derek are all I’ve thought about and they’re the most important people in my life, but I must create structure and normality for the children, to clean the bath, put the plates in the dishwasher, and tidy the house.

“I also need to get back to work so that I can provide for the children and we can do things together, to make them feel that the light hasn’t gone out of their lives, that theres hope for the future.”

Kate revealed Derek has emerged from his induced coma after 98 days in hospital.

The GMB host revealed she talks to her husband daily with their children over FaceTime.

She added: “I really believe he can hear. When medical staff say Good morning, Derek, he sometimes opened his eyes.”

The news comes after Kate revealed her husband was coronavirus free last month.

During an interview from her home on GMB, Kate said: “The doctors manage one bit extraordinarily well and there seems to be a flicker of hope, and then other things emerge and theyre fighting that.”

“Lets look at some of the positives, she added. “Hes now Covid-free so hes testing negative for the Covid virus. The fight with the virus has been won and hes still here.

“But its wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we dont know if he can recover from that.”
