SRINAGAR: Following a sudden surge in deaths in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley over the last two weeks, the UT re-imposed lockdown in parts of Kashmir division on Sunday.
Pandurang K Pole, divisional commissioner, Kashmir, told TOI that the decision was taken following suggestions from several civil society members for re-imposition of lockdown in the valley.
Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, deputy commissioner Srinagar, said the decision to re-impose lockdown was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by him as the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
The Kashmir based traders associations, as well as several doctors associations, had suggested to the UT authorities to reimpose lockdown after a spike in Covid-19 cases in the Kashmir valley in recent days.
The government of J&K reopened parks and gardens of the UT and invited tourists to visit the valley only last week.
