The Great British Bake Off 2017 winner Sophie Faldo admits that some of her family and friends might have placed bets on her winning, knowing that she’d already won.

Guests of the bakers are invited to the Bake Off tent when the final episode is filmed in advance, and of course find out who the winner is ahead of the finale airing.

But friends and family have to sign a strict non-disclosure agreement ensuring the winner isn’t leaked beforehand.

But speaking to The Sun, the 34-year-old baker reveals that some of the guests may have placed a bet on the winner.

She said: ‘One hundred or so people already know because contestants invite friends and family to the picnic. Some will sneakily place a bet.’

The news comes after Bake Off judge Prue Leith ruined the GBBO results by congratulating Sophie for winning the show before the finale was on TV.

The new Channel 4 judge tweeted at the time: ‘No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win.’

She then wrote ‘Bravo Sophie’.

Prue’s tweet was deleted – unfortunately, the damage was already done, with many seeing it and tweeting about it.

Metro.co.uk has contacted a rep for Channel 4, Sophie Faldo and Love Productions for comment.

The Great British Bake Off Christmas special airs Christmas Day at at 7:40pm and Monday 1st January at 7:40pm on Channel 4.
