Skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Deans story is set to be one of the highlights of Christmas night viewing as Torvill and Dean comes to the screen.

The ITV drama follows the early days of their partnership through to the point where they scored Olympic gold with their classic Bolero routine.

As you can expect, that routine will form one of the highlights of the two-hour film – but just when did they actually skate Bolero and where?

Lets take a nostalgic look back…

When did Torvill and Dean win at the Olympics with Bolero?

The couple took gold at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984, scooping the top prize on February 14th of that year.

More than 24m people tuned in to their performance at the Zetra Stadium to watch Bolero, which won itself a standing ovation from the 8,500 spectators in the venue.

They went on to score a maximum of nine sixes from the judges for artistic impression – the highest score possible.

The couple also scored 12 out of 18 perfect 6.0 scores for free dance.

That year went on to be even more successful for the pair, who were also crowned BBC Sports Personality Of The Year.

They achieved further success in 1994 when they won the European Championships, before scoring bronze at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer.

The couple retired in 1998 following their final performance on the Canadian Stars Ice tour.

When is Torvill and Dean on?

The one-off two-hour drama airs on Christmas Day on ITV at 9.15pm.

That puts it in direct competition with the Christmas Day hour-long edition of EastEnders on BBC One at 9.15pm, followed by the Mrs Browns Boys Christmas special at 10.15pm.

What can you expect from Torvill and Dean on ITV?

The drama takes a look at their lives from growing up in Nottingham and initially being paired up as skaters, all the way through to their becoming household names.

According to the synopsis from ITV well learn about their humble beginnings and family life in Nottingham; how Chris, following the breakup of his parents marriage, channelled his anger into skating and how Jayne, was outwardly reserved, and determined to explore her inwardly passionate nature.

We explore how Chris and Jayne clashed as they separately and together tried to establish a new language for ice dance – one which won gold medals but also spoke to their private, intense relationship.

Who is in the cast of Torvill and Dean?

Christopher Dean is being played by Will Tudor, best known for his roles in Game Of Thrones as Olyvar and Humans, in which he played Odi, as well as the likes of Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, Great Expectations and Doctors.

Meanwhile Jayne Torvill is played by Poppy Lee Friar, whos been in the likes of In The Club, Little Einsteins and Ackley Bridge, in which she plays Missy Booth.

Its not the first time the pair have worked together, having also both starred in In The Club as well as Mr Selfridge – Poppy played Rosalie Selfridge in that show while Will starred as Frank Whitely.

Other Torvill and Dean cast members include EastEnders legend Anita Dobson as Jaynes first skating coach Miss Perry, Stephen Tompkinson and Jo Hartley as her mum and dad, and Jaime Winstone as skating instructor Janet Sawbridge, who first paired them together on the rink.
