Its the end of an era—the partnership of comedic powerhouses Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will wind down at Paramount, with the two shuttering production company Gary Sanchez and female equivalent Gloria Sanchez after the completion of their existing projects. Ferrell and McKay—partners since meeting at Saturday Night Live in 1995—are said to “branch out separately and refocus their creative efforts” going forward.
Thats according to Deadline, who report the pair “will continue to support each other both personally and professionally.” Both Ferrell and McKay confirmed the dissolution of their creative partnership in their own statement: “The last 13 years could not have been more enjoyable and satisfying for the two of us at Sanchez Productions. We give massive thanks to our incredible staff and executives and all the writers, directors and actors we worked with through the years. The two of us will always work together creatively and always be friends. And we recognize we are lucky as hell to end this venture as such.”
In addition to such notable comedy collaborations as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Step Brothers and The Other Guys, Ferrell and McKay were also responsible for the creation of comedy platform Funny or Die. The website began with McKays two-year-old daughter haranguing Ferrell in viral comedy short The Landlord, and has since gone on to spawn internet and TV comedy mainstays like Drunk History and Zach Galifianakis Between Two Ferns. Still to come for Sanchez productions includes the Jennifer Lopez stripper thriller Hustlers, as well as the McKay-Ferrell produced Netflix comedy Eurovision, in which Ferrell also stars.
