FRANKIE BOYLE has sparked backlash after the comedian joked that he “bought fireworks” in case Prime Minister Boris Johnson died of coronavirus in a controversial post on Twitter.

Comedian Frankie Boyle, 47, has sparked outrage from some of his 2.8 million Twitter followers after joking about Boris Johnsons comments that contingency plans were made for his death after he was hospitalised with coronavirus. The former Mock The Week star quipped that he “bought fireworks” in case the Prime Minister died of the disease in a post yesterday.

Frankie tweeted: “Boris Johnson said contingency plans were made for his death.

“Thats true – Id bought fireworks.”

The television personality referenced Johnson’s recent remarks in which he revealed contingency plans had been put in place to keep the government running if he didnt recover.

The PM spent three nights in intensive care during his battle with COVID-19.

He is now back at work and has made a full recovery.

Frankies tweet prompted backlash from some Twitter users and drew comparisons to Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes after she admitted she “had difficulty not wanting Boris Johnson to die” during an appearance The Last Leg Locked Down Under last Friday.

One of the funnymans followers sarcastically replied: “Wishing for someone to die. Such class.”

Another person tweeted: “Careful! Youll be on the naughty step with Miriam Margolyes…”

A third fan added: “Please tell me you will be inviting the fabulous Miriam Margolyes to help light the fireworks…???”

Frankie also posted a seemingly sarcastic follow-up tweet, which read: “One thing I will say for Boris Johnson.

“As this nation stands on a precipice, theres no one better equipped to take us forward.”

Frankies comments come after broadcasting regulator Ofcom received more than 240 complaints about Margolyes’ sharing her views about Johnson.

The actress said she “wanted Boris to die” before adding that such a thought “reflected badly” on her.

When quizzed on the government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, Miriam said: “Appallingly, of course, appallingly.

“It’s a disgrace, it’s a scandal. It’s a public scandal.”

She continued: “I mean, I had difficulty not wanting Boris Johnson to die. I wanted him to die.

“Then I thought that will reflect badly on me and I don’t want to be the sort of person that wants people to die.”

The star went on to say she had a change of heart about the Prime Ministers condition.

She added: “So then I wanted him to get better, which he did do, he did get better. But he didn’t get better as a human being.

“And I really would prefer that. So, we’re in the s**t, basically, here.”
