Britney Spears’ ex Kevin Federline supports court challenge against conservatorship
Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline has released a statement saying he supports her challenge to get her father Jamie Spears removed from her conservatorship if that’s what she wants
Britney Spears’ ex-husband Kevin Federline has voiced his support for her attempts to change her conservatorship.
Kevin, who was married to Britney from 2004 to 2007, said that he wants what’s best for her, which in turn is best for their two children, Sean, 15, and 14-year-old Jayden.
Last week Britney appeared in court in a bid to get her father Jamie Spears removed from the order, which gives him control of her financial and personal affairs.
And Kevin, who previously released another statement in support of his ex-wife, has once again given his public backing.
His lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said in a when asked about the pair’s kids: “The best thing would be for their mom to be healthy and happy.
“And if either of those things aren’t true, it doesn’t provide for the best setting for custody to be exercised.
“[Kevin] certainly respects Britney and only hopes the best for her because when the best for her is achieved, it’s the best for their kids.
“The kids love their mother and he wants there to be a healthy and strong relationship.”
In Britney’s testimony she made a number of shocking claims about her life under the conservatorship, including that she had been forced to be on contraception and stopped from getting married and having more children.
Speaking about the testimony, Kaplan added to People: “Britney has not been served well by the conservatorship and it’s not consistent with what she wants.
“I think that she should be able to challenge that. And if it’s what’s best for her, Kevin supports it.”
Kaplan added: “If she’s strong and healthy and wants to be in control of her own life, and can do that in a reasonable, responsible fashion, then more power to her.”
He went on: “If it was necessary, we have to be concerned about whether she’s okay.
“And if it’s no longer necessary, that’s great too. Just want to make sure that all of the considerations, how she’s doing are taken into account if she seeks to change the custody order in the post-conservatorship era, if that ever comes.”
When she appeared in court last week, Britney told the judge that she wanted to sue her family for allowing the conservatorship, and thought everyone involved in it, including her dad, should be in jail.
She said: “My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management … they should be in jail.
“I’ve told the world I’m happy and OK. I lied. I am not happy, I can’t sleep. I’m so angry, it’s insane. And I’m depressed.”
She continued: “Ma’am, I am not here to be anyone’s slave. I can say no to a dance move.”
“I just want my life back. It’s enough,” she later announced.
Her dad Jamie said in a statement: “[Jamie] is sorry to see his daughter in so much pain. [He] loves his daughter and misses her very much.”
