Convicted killer captured two days after escaping Mississippi prison

A convicted killer who escaped a Mississippi prison was captured Tuesday after two days on the run, authorities said.

Michael Floyd Wilson, 51, was caught in Harrison County after he stole a woman’s car and ran out of gas as he was being pursued by deputies, according to Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain.

Wilson on Sunday fled from Central Mississippi Correctional Facility after climbing over a 12-foot fence topped with razor wire on the perimeter of the prison.

The inmate suffered cuts to his hands and arms during the escape and managed to get treated and released twice from an area hospital before being caught, the report said.

Wilson is serving a life sentence for a 2014 double murder in Harrison County. His Sunday escape marked the second time since 2018 that he fled from a Mississippi prison.

Cain announced during a Tuesday afternoon press conference that 12 staffers at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility are facing disciplinary action over Wilson’s latest escape.
