Donald Trump said Britains ambassador to the US has not served the UK well after he called the president inept and insecure.

In memos leaked to the Mail on Sunday, ambassador Sir Kim Darroch also described Mr Trump as incompetent and said the White House had become uniquely dysfunctional under his service.

The president hit back at the emails as the Foreign Office launched an investigation into the source of the leak.

In one memo, Sir Darroch questioned if the Trump administration will ever look competent and expressed concerns over vicious infighting and chaos in the White House.

Mr Trump told reporters in New Jersey: Were not big fans of that man and he has not served the UK well.

So I can understand it and I can say things about him but I wont bother.

Trade secretary Liam Fox told the BBC the leak was unprofessional, unethical and unpatriotic.

He said that whoever released the emails had maliciously undermined the defence and security relationship with the US, the most important global relationship that we have.
