As much as Love Actually, twinkly lights and magical Christmas window displays, the John Lewis Christmas advert has become a key signpost that the festive period is upon us.
We’ve had the tear-jerker Man On The Moon, the soppy Monty The Penguin, the emotional Bear and the Hare and last year’s offering of Buster the dog .
And with the retailer, as always, keeping the star and plotline of this year’s advert a closely guarded secret, all we can do now is sit and wait.
We do know one thing: the main character is set to be a ‘cuddly monster’.
‘The creative team behind the John Lewis advert have pulled out all the stops this year,’ a source told OK! Online.
‘It’s going to be like nothing they’ve ever done before and will be a million miles away from Buster the Boxer.’
The source added that the ad’s main character is ‘a cross between the Gruffalo and a big cuddly teddy bear’. Although given they also described it as ‘an emotional advert with a really lovely ending’ we recommend you start stocking up on those hankies now.
What’s more, the ad’s also got itself a new director, in the shape of Oscar winner Michel Gondry – the brains behind the Jim Carrey classic Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind as well as countless music videos.
So – when is the 2017 advert finally launching?
The secretive folk at John Lewis aren’t revealing this information just yet. In fact, they never do – it’s part of the excitement of seeing it on TV for the fist time.
But don’t fret, because we can speculate.
Last year, it launched on the second Thursday of the month – the year before that it debuted on the first Friday. That means we’re surely just days away – a week at most – from clapping eyes on the advert of the year.
We are ready for it.
