He stepped in as a last-minute replacement when Liam Gallagher was forced to pull out of the show – and it’s safe to say that Dizzee Rascal made his mark on Sounds Like Friday Night.

Because the rapper managed to turn the air blue within minutes of taking to the stage to perform his new single Bop N’Keep It Dippin’ – leaving BBC bosses forced to apologise.

Yup, just one verse into the track, he’d dropped a casual ‘motherf*** live on air, even though the show screened well before 8pm (and well before the watershed).

Gasp! And don’t think it didn’t go unnoticed either:

I think Dizzee Rascal just said **** live on BBC One

Oh Dizzee. We are clutching our pearls and looking shocked on your behalf.

As Greg James and co-host Dotty welcomed him to the stage they also addressed the unexpected moment, with Greg saying: ‘Firstly a quick apology if anyone was offended by any of the language there.

He added: ‘It’s one of those live moments, what are you gonna do?’

A BBC spokesperson later added: ‘The relevant lyrics to the track were changed throughout for the performance, but there was one moment he accidentally reverted to the original. Greg apologised to the audience immediately afterwards.

This kind of thing never happened on Top Of The Pops (at least we don’t think it did).

Dizzee stepped in with a last-minute appearance on the show after Liam Gallagher, who had been due to appear, was forced to pull out on doctor’s orders.

Sorry I can't perform tnight on Sounds Like Friday Night as I've been told to rest my voice by my doctor as you were LG x

‘Sorry I can’t perform tonight on Sounds Like Friday Night as I’ve been told to rest my voice by my doctor,’ he told his fans on Twitter.

Still, it’s fair to say his replacement certainly made his mark on proceedings.

Sounds Like Friday Night continues next Friday on BBC One at 7.30pm.
