Neil Lennon says Tony Cascarino is "way out of line and totally wrong" for his dismissal of Celtic's unbeaten run under Brendan Rodgers.

The Hoops made it 63 games without defeat on Saturday when they thumped St Johnstone 4-0, breaking a century-old British record.

But their achievements have not impressed the club's former striker and talkSPORT presenter Cascarino, who claimed earlier this week that it 'means nothing' due to the lack of serious competition in Scottish football.

Cascarino's comments have sparked fury north of the border, and former Celtic boss Lennon is among those who have taken offence.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the Hibernian manager said: "There is a bit of a gulf between Celtic and the rest but you are taking about 63 games where one mistake can cost them.

"They are playing Champions League games, coming back and playing at the weekend, they are playing semi-finals, finals and they are playing well and playing good football.

"Scottish football is trying to reinvent itself. It is going to take Rangers a few years to try and get up to the level they were at before but they are working on it.

"It is on the turn again and I'm really disappointed with Cas. I don't know if he is trying to make a headline for himself out of it but he is way out of line and totally wrong on it."
