There were high expectations for Alexandra Burke on Saturday’s Strictly as she delivered the first Argentine Tango of the series – and she didn’t disappoint.

The singer – who dropped just one point on last weekend’s show with her cha cha – notched up another couple of tens as she took to the floor with partner Gorka Marquez for the blistering routine.

But she stopped just short of nabbing the second full 40 of the series – instead scoring 38 to tie at the top of the leaderboard with Davood Ghadami.

‘You never fail to amaze me,’ Craig Revel Horwood told her afterwards, ‘That was incredible.’

Meanwhile Shirley Ballas called the routine ‘extraordinary;’ as she added: ‘I felt like I was transported to a nightclub where it was just you two.’

The folks at home couldn’t get enough of it either.

Just caught up with Strictly. That Argentine tango was a thing of wonder. Fair play to Alexandra. #SCD2017

While Alexandra made her mark at the top of the scoreboard, EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami and partner Nadiya Bychkova gave her a run for her money with a Charleston which gave him his highest score of the series – and his first tens.

Shirley called the routine ‘flawless’, while Craig saved his trademark ‘a-may-zing’ for the couple – who tied with Alexandra at the top of the leaderboard.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Sunday night on BBC One at 7.15pm when one more couple will leave the competition and miss out on a chance to perform in Blackpool next weekend.
