Tesco is facing further fallout from its 2014 accounting scandal as a former director claims he was wrongly dismissed.

Kevin Grace, the former commercial director, was removed from his job after it emerged that Tesco had overstated profit expectations. Grace maintains he was not responsible for the problem and last year the Serious Fraud Office decided not to charge him in relation to the matter.

Grace was fired from the company at the end of 2014, but is now suing the company for lost income and benefits totalling £635,807, according to the Mail on Sunday.

In a letter giving him four days' notice, Tesco accused Grace of having been "culpable to a high degree" for the scandal.

A Tesco spokesperson said:“We are aware of this case and intend to strongly defend it, but are not able to comment otherwise on an ongoing legal matter.”

Three other former Tesco executives are facing charges of false accounting and fraud in an ongoing trial.

The trial of former Tesco UK finance director Carl Rogberg, ex-commercial director for food John Scouler and former UK MD Chris Bush will continue this week but is not expected to conclude until after Christmas.
