Cinemax and BBC crime drama Rellik and PBS/BBC co-production The Miniaturist are heading to China after All3Media International closed its first-ever drama deal in the country.

Both series have been picked up by Chinese digital platform iQIYI, which has more than 20M streaming subscribers.

Rellik, which is produced by New Pictures and Two Brothers Pictures, stars Game of Thrones’ Richard Dormer and The Crown’s Jodi Balfour. The six-part drama, written by The Missing writers and Fleabag producers Harry and Jack Williams, tells the story of a murder investigation but backwards. Meanwhile, The Miniaturist is a three-part period thriller that tells the story of a house where, beneath the lavish beauty and privilege, lie forbidden passions and dangerous secrets. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy (X-Men: The New Mutants) and Romola Garai (The Hour).

The pair are the latest international dramas to be acquired by the Chinese on-demand service, which airs US dramas including This is Us and Inhumans alongside local hits such as To Be a Better Man, First Love and Ode to Joy and Korean drama Descendants of the Sun.

The deal was struck by All3Media International’s Asia Pacific Sales Manager Kit Yow, who said: “We’re very pleased to conclude this significant new deal with iQIYI, representing our first drama acquisition by a Chinese platform. The agreement highlights the success of our ongoing strategy to forge closer relationships with local broadcasters and expand the reach of our catalogue through our Singapore-based regional sales office. Our factual entertainment content is already a strong performer with Chinese audiences and we know these impeccably produced, high-quality original thrillers will prove equally popular with iQIYI subscribers.”
