The Internet went wild last week when a mother decided to post a picture of herself breastfeeding her 10-month-old son at Disneyland on a Facebook page for nursing moms, after two women allegedly suggested she use use a bathroom.

Brittni Medina, 24, of Rancho Cucamonga, was standing in line and didn’t want to lose her place so she started breastfeeding her son, Micah, who became hungry. She heard the women behind her making snarky comments and asked her husband to snap the picture of her breastfeeding Micah to capture the frowns on the faces of two women standing behind her as they watched in disgust.

“Well these ladies were so angry by it my husband just had to take a picture. Peep the haters,” Medina wrote in the post, which she left in a group named Breastfeeding Mamas. “Characters of the day Just had to get a picture!”

She added:

UPDATE #1: Because people want to act all bent out of shape no I was not walking around feeding him in this moment ( I have tho before and would do it again) I was standing in a very long line to get our picture taken my son got hungry and I wasn’t going to wait in another line again. So I took off my first top and nursed. These women were making snarky comments so I moved from my spot to catch a picture with these characters. Not for attention for me but attention to the fact NO WOMEN SHOULD BE SHAMED FOR FEEDING THEIR BABY UNCOVERED.

Her post quickly went viral, reaching people in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

One woman wrote, “This is seriously solved so simply. If you don’t like it don’t look . Seriously it’s that easy. No one is holding a gun to your head Telling you to stare that hard at a woman feeding her child NATURALLY!”

Another commented, “Wtf is wrong with people? A baby needed to eat. Most natural thing in the world.”

One woman said, “My son is a type 1 diabetic and I would never tell him to go to a nasty, germ infested bathroom to inject insulin, and I would never expect a mother to go to a nasty germ infested bathroom to feed her child.”

Medina claimed that her post reached the families of the women in the photo, adding, “A member of the family wrote me stating he was ashamed of his aunts behavior. The younger women commented on an article denying saying anything. Claiming she was tired and did not want to stand in line. She claims she never saw me nurse but watched me put my second top on. I did not put my second top on until it was our turn because I had switched my sons shirt!”

In an interview with Popsugar, Medina admitted, “I actually stepped a little over to get them in the picture because they were talking loudly saying how I should go to the restroom to feed. I was happy my husband could capture me and my son happily feeding and I thought the looks on their faces were priceless. I mean, how could they be so mad?” She reportedly added, “I covered with my first son, but honestly people will complain no matter what you do!”

While breastfeeding in public has sometimes been controversial, some women have made nursing — or merely public nudity — a form of activism. In 2014, Rumor Willis decided to walk down a street in New York City topless to protest double standards.

Last year, Breitbart News reported that a group of women walked topless in Los Angeles, New York, and several other U.S. cities and throughout the world for “Go Topless Day” to promote gender equality.
