Rebekah Vardy attempted suicide after being subjected to sexual abuse at the hands of a family friend.

The WAG earned praise from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! viewers on Tuesday night as she discussed mental health and her suicide attempt as a teenager with Iain Lee.

Now, it has been reported that Rebekah tried to take her own life aged just 14 after being abused by a family friend after Becky moved in with her mother following her parents’ divorce.

A friend of Becky’s told the Mirror: ‘He didn’t rape her. But he would grab her boobs, he tried to shove his hands down her trousers if he could.

‘There was a time he was trying to grab her behind a bush and then someone came walking up the path and he just shoved into this bramble bush.’

Rebekah spiralled into a depression and attempted to take an overdose when she was 14 years old. Luckily, she was rescued and forced to vomit.

Previously, Rebekah, now 35, said that she cut ties with her mum when she refused to believe her about the abuse.

She said: ‘It was a terrible time. Mum was so angry I was thrown out of home.

‘I feel sorry for my mum for not having more strength to believe in me, I know I would have believed my girls and I would be there if they were in the same situation.’

Rebekah said in the jungle that she didn’t face up to her mental health struggles until she suffered with post-natal depression following the birth of her second child, Taylor.

The reality star, who is married to footballer Jamie Vardy, previously opened up about the hardships she faced in an Instagram post back in October.

The mum-of-four wrote: ‘In my teens & my 20’s I had years of hardship. Sexual abuse in my teens, a suicide attempt, awful relationships with nasty men who I stupidly thought would look after me. I was a victim of awful domestic abuse (physical & psychological), I suffered from PND & caught my partner at the time messaging other women for sex when I was in the depths of despair.

‘Somehow I found the strength to get out of the house and the relationship, I got help from my doctor & was able to stand on my own two feet. I struggled to make ends meet but I was independent and free from bad relationships for the first time in 16 difficult years and I was taking care of myself and my kids and loving it.

‘That’s when Jamie came into my life. When I wasn’t looking for anyone and I was learning who I really was, I met the only man other than my real Dad who finally showed me how kind and supportive a man could be. I am so grateful for our happy life and I truly believe that every awful thing I went through lead me on the path to the life that I love today. To anyone who is having a hard time for whatever reason, things do change, it will take time but it will get better.’
