Hosted by the versatile Lady Bird star Saoirse Ronan, last night’s SNL featured a collection of hit or miss skits that mixed of silly and frothy live sketches (many of which landed with a thud), mixed with several recorded pieces. The topics: a preview of the new MTV show Floribama Shore, by Jersey Shore creators, this one mixing debauchery films during a hurricane; a skit about the K-Mart returns department; a competition between lapdog office underlings called The Race; a Phoenix news report about a gas leak that blew up an American Girls store at the Canyon Galleria Shopping Center in Phoenix, the focus quickly becoming a male survivor who, it turns out, wasn’t there to buy a doll for someone else as he initially says.
The most worthy viral pull was a fairly pointed song about sexual harassment. Called Welcome to Hell, the song was set in a Candyland setting, where Cecily Strong, Saoirse Ronan, Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant sang about the habitual predators who’ve been toppling like dominoes in Hollywood, DC and the media.
