13 Reasons Why is officially on its way back to you. Selena Gomez, the show’s executive producer, confirmed Monday that filming had officially wrapped for Season 2 of the hit Netflix series.

“And this year wraps up with another committed journey with @13reasonswhy -Season 2 is coming,” Gomez wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo-booth strip of herself with the cast. The fortuitous news arrived mere hours after it was announced that series star Katherine Langfordhad been nominated for a surprise Golden Globe for her performance as Hannah, a tortured teen whose suicide drives the arc of the show.

So, what can we expect from the upcoming season? While most plot details are still tightly under wraps, there are a few things already out in the ether. For example:

Hannah’s Back

Despite the fact that Hannah commits suicide at the end of the first season (a highly contentious plot point that stirred debate for its graphic portrayal of the act), the character will still be part of the second season.

Show-runner Brian Yorkey previously told Vanity Fair—prior to the show officially being renewed—that he would be interested in exploring new angles of his late protagonist’s life, an idea that actress Kate Walsh, who plays Hannah’s mother, supported. “I think that history is open to interpretation always,” she says. “So I think that that’s something that, if they go forward for a second season, would be explored more. I like the idea of always playing with perception.” Yorkey later confirmed that decision to V.F., saying “there’s a lot more that I’d like to know about Hannah and her life, and her relationship with these other characters.” The show will weave in and out of the past and present in order to handle both story lines.

But She’s Not the Only Focus

Jessica, one of Hannah’s best friends, will also get some more attention this time around. In May, Yorkey told E.W. that there were still so many loose threads with the character that he’d be interested in focusing more closely on her. As you’ll recall, Jessica has an incredibly rough story line in the first season: she’s raped, develops an addiction to alcohol, and loses many of her friends. “Jessica is just beginning the process of recovering from her rape, and we have a rapist who has not in any way been brought to justice,” Yorkey told E.W. “To leave those two things hanging out there in the world would be upsetting.”

There Are No More Tapes

Get ready to say goodbye to those signature cassette tapes. Yorkey confirmed to E.W. that the show’s teen characters would no longer have to deal with tapes in Season 2, but rather “a new piece of technology for 13-year-olds to Google.” (Just like the cast of Stranger Things!)

But There Are Lots of New Players

In August, BuzzFeed reported that the show had added seven new cast members. While most are new high-school students, there are also three older characters: Jackie (played by Kelli O’Hara), an advocate for bullied kids; Sonya (Allison Miller), an ambitious lawyer; and Rick (Ben Lawson), a “beloved baseball coach.” Here’s a quick breakdown of the other characters: Cyrus (Bryce Cast), a troublemaker with a soft spot for the bullied; Mackenzie (Chelsea Alden), Cyrus’s artsy sister; Nina (Samantha Logan), a track star; and Chloe (Anne Winters), a head cheerleader. Deadline later reported that three new actors had been cast to play parent roles, in addition to a new character who plays a boxing coach.

Sonya and Jackie’s characters are particularly of interest, perhaps tipping off the ways in which Season 2 will handle some of the criticisms of Season 1. While Yorkey previously told V.F. that the show’s team had no plans to “go out of our way to respond in any way to what’s been said about the show,” one can imagine that there were several conversations behind the scenes about how to bring new perspectives to the upcoming season in order to head off potential controversy. We can also perhaps expect a procedural element, as Hannah’s parents seek justice against her school. Netflix has not yet set a release date for the upcoming season, so we’ll continue to sleuth away until then.
