‘Saturday Night Live’: Colin Jost & Michael Che Named Co-Head Writers Of NBC Show

Weekend Update anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che have been named co-head writers of NBC’s venerable late night series Saturday Night Live. They will join current head writers Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker.

The duo’s appointment brings the number of SNL co-head writers back to four. They fill the void left by the departure of former co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider who left at the beginning of the season to segue to their Comedy Central series executive produced by SNL boss Lorne Michaels.

Weekend Update anchors serving as SNL head writers/co-head writers has a long tradition, with Tina Fey and Seth Meyers previously holding the titles.

Also today, SNL announced tthat Sudi Green and Fran Gillespie have been named writing supervisors.

Jost and Che began their tenure on Weekend Update in 2014. Jost started at SNL as a writer in 2005. Che appeared on The Daily Show before joining SNL in 2013. Green and Gillespie together wrote Cartier Fidget Spinner Ad, E! New Line-Up Promo with Gal Gadot and more, as well as having spearheaded several other popular sketches.

So far this season, Saturday Night Live is averaging a 2.89 rating in adults 18-49 and 9.577 million viewers overall in “Live+7 figures from Nielsen. This is the show’s #2 most-watched season in nine years, behind last year’s highly rated run.

Saturday Night Live is produced in association with Broadway Video. Michaels is the creator and executive producer.
