Saturday Night Live‘s pre-Christmas, post-Roy Moore Weekend Update sent off the would-be Alabama senator and accused mall troll with one of the faux news desk’s best lines of the night: Noting that Doug Jones will be the state’s first Democratic senator in over 20 years, co-anchor Colin Jones quoted Moore. “Gross. Over 20 years?”

After the joke settled in, Weekend Update had other topical gifts to deliver, including the strong voter turnout in Alabama among black women. Explaining that Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez tweeted “Black women led us to victory and we can’t take that for granted,” co-anchor (and newly appointed co-head writer) Michael Che offered a sly, skeptical and perfectly delivered, “Mmmm, but I bet you will.”

Che also gave his take on how a black man choose between white Southern men in the voting booth – “and it’s almost always not the one on a horse.”

After Jost pointed out the folly of Democrats calling for Trump to resign – “You’re never going to shame President Grab-Ass” – Che offered a seasonal the-time-is-right observation on a Trump resignation. “We’ve learned our lesson. What else is there? If this were a Christmas movie, this would be the part where you winked at the camera and disappeared and we realized that you lived inside of us the whole time.”

Hollywood didn’t sneak by without a lump of coal either. After pointing out that no female directors were nominated for Golden Globe Awards this year, he said, “It’s a snub women in Hollywood are calling ‘the least of our problems’, with a collage photo popping up of Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Tambor, Danny Masterson, Louis CK, Dustin Hoffman, Jeremy Piven, Brett Ratner, Steven Seagal and James Toback.

Update then went full Omarosa (or as Che memorably called her, the former Secretary of the Sunken Place), with the now famous clips of CNN’s Angela Rye screaming with glee over the former Apprentice star’s White House exit, The View‘s Sunny Hostin calling O a “pariah,” and, best of all, Robin Roberts’ still-untired “bye Felicia” kiss-off.

Cue Omarosa, or in this case, Leslie Jones, who had played the ex-Apprentice as a Christmas beggar in the show’s cold open. Re-entering the SNL festivities, Jones did a pretty convincing Omarosa, complete with punctuating hand gestures. “I escorted myself off the premises,” she insisted, “and then I threw myself into the bushes.”

Watch those Update moments in the clip above, with the Golden Globes bit coming in at the 3:15 mark, and the Omarosa jokes at 3:28.

And finally, SNL brought back Alex Moffat’s “Guy Who Just Bought a Boat” character. That “finally”, by the way, is to be read as in “ending the Update segment,” not “finally they brought this guy back!” Though I have to admit Moffat’s performance of this sleazy, sex-punning braggart does land him a cut above Update’s usual Characters Who Need Explaining In Lieu Of Real Names. Moffat goes all-in on every character he does, whether dimwit Eric Trump or slimy Boat Guy.

Take a look.
