Liverpool need to sign a holding midfielder to bring the best out of their other midfield options, says former Anfield hero Dietmar Hamann.
While the Reds’ attacking players have been sensational this season, there remain questions about those behind them.
Hamann thinks a holding midfielder could be the answer.

‘What is missing is a holding midfielder,’ the German told AskFans. ‘The balance of the team sometimes is not right. Both [Jordan] Henderson and [Emre] Can would be better if they had a [Nemanja] Matic or a [N’Golo] Kante next to them.
‘They are good players but could be even better with somebody else next to them.’
Hamann, who spent seven years at Anfield, believes Liverpool have too many of the same player in midfield.
‘Can and Henderson are very similar. They are players who like to drive with the ball, get in the box and score goals.
‘In [Georginio] Wijnaldum they have got another one who is pretty similar.’
