‘Always, June’: Leon Bernicoff fans left ‘in tears’ as they remember his poignant message about heaven to wife June in Gogglebox episode

Gogglebox fans have been left reeling at the news that series favourite Leon Bernicoff – of Leon and June fame – passed away aged 83.
And there’s one Gogglebox moment in particular that’s got fans feeling emotional in the wake of the sad news.
Leon and wife June were watching Gladiator in a past episode, and after watching the closing scene in which Russell Crowe’s character meets his family in heaven, Leon made a sweet admission to June.
‘He’s died and he’s joined them. I like to think that’s true, you know,’ he said to June.
So deeply saddened at the passing of our dear, dear Leon. He was and always will be the grandfather of #gogglebox – an absolute star who always made me laugh with his sharp wit and unshakable opinions. Much love and strength to June and the Bernicoff family.

‘Yeah, well you do don’t you,’ June replied. ‘Especially when you get to our age.’
‘Oh I think so, I believe it,’ Leon said, before adding the bit that’s got viewers tearing up: ‘I’d join you, you see. Always, June.’
Upon hearing the star had passed away, fans took to Twitter to share the moment.
Recalling the sweet moment from 2016, fans raced to Twitter after hearing Leon had passed away.
I’ll always remember when Leon was watching that final scene in Gladiator, reuniting with his family in heaven, and he said he hoped that’s what happens. That will be what happens, sweet Leon.

News of Leon’s passing was confirmed by Channel 4 and production company Studio Lambert earlier today, who said that he died in hospital on Saturday after a short illness.
‘It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sad news that after a short illness Gogglebox’s Leon Bernicoff passed away in hospital earlier today,’ they said in a statement.
‘To those of us that knew him personally, Leon was a man of unwavering principles who exerted a distinct paternal presence both on and off screen. He will be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family; cast and crew.’
