As Christmas Day’s hectic TV schedule drew to a close, Mrs Brown’s Boys might just have saved one of the biggest twists for last.

Because the Christmas night edition of the show saw its new Rory finally unmasked, following original actor Rory Cowan’s decision to leave the show – with actor Damian McKiernan being unveiled as his replacement.

The storyline saw Rory’s new face explained away by plastic surgery – but as the bandages came off, even Mrs Brown was shocked.

Here’s what he looks like now.

As the newcomer asked Mrs Brown what she thought of his new appearance, the shocked-looking Mammy answered in typically characteristic style, asking simply: ‘Who the f**k are you?’

However she eventually came to terms with the change, finishing the show by saying: ‘I suppose the main thing is that Rory is whomever he wants to be. That takes confidence, and confidence is very important.

‘He gets that from his mother,’ she concluded.

In case you’re still wondering, Damian McKiernan is a former professional snooker player turned actor, who met Brendan O’Carroll back when he was playing snooker – and he got the role simply after a phone call from the man himself.

He admitted making his debut as Rory was nerve-wracking, saying: ‘It felt like I was jumping without a parachute, it was then I realised that OH MY GOD this is serious. I was so nervous,’ he told the Radio Times.

‘I just didn’t want to let anybody down. They are all such fantastic people with such warm hearts and I felt so much pressure to repay their belief in me.’

Rory Cowan announced his departure from the show in July of this year – saying he had been unhappy being a part of Mrs Brown’s Boys for some time.

‘I feel that 26 years is enough so I decided it was time to go,’ he revealed.
