Written by Vishnu Varma | Kochi | Updated: December 27, 2017 2:53 am The Qarib Qarib Singlle actor had recently called the dialogues in Kasaba ‘misogynist’.

The Ernakulam police has begun investigation proceedings into Malayalam actor Parvathy’s complaint of being viciously trolled and abused by people on social media platforms.

“We received the complaint on Sunday. She (Parvathy) has given us a bunch of URLs of social media posts in which people have tried to harass her. Obscene language has been used in these posts. We have asked Twitter and Facebook for more information about these accounts. Once we receive their responses, arrests will be made,” said Sibi Tom, Ernakulam South CI told the Indian Express.

“We have filed an FIR under section 67 of the IT Act,” he added.

Parvathy, in the last one week, has been receiving lewd and distasteful comments from users on Twitter and Facebook after she publicly criticised the misogynistic and sexist dialogues in the 2016 Malayalam film Kasaba. She said that listening to such lines in the movie disappointed her. Her comments at the open forum of the International Film Festival of Kerala in Thiruvananthapuram had drawn the ire of the fans of superstar Mammootty, who played the lead role in the movie. In the film, the actor, who plays a cop, is seen telling his female colleague that he could hit her so hard that it would disrupt her menstruation cycle.

While Parvathy’s bold comments drew praise from several quarters, she also had to face coordinated abuse from a section of the people who did not take kindly to their favourite actor being criticised. Death and rape threats were also reportedly made in some of these comments.

Parvathy, who was recently seen in the Bollywood film Qarib Qarib Singlle opposite Irrfan Khan, bagged the award for best actor (female), also known as the silver peacock, at the recent International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa for her performance in the Malayalam film Takeoff. Based on the real-life plot of the Malayali nurses who were stuck in war-ravaged Iraq, Parvathy’s role as one of the nurses was critically acclaimed.
