While it’s interesting watching a bunch of random celebrities forced to live together in the name of entertainment, what we really want to know is how much this year’s Celebrity Big Brother contestants are getting paid.

Every series there’s a substantial difference between what the bigger names are stashing away verses the lesser-known stars who are filling the beds.

And this year, it’s no different.

Of course, with 2018’s all-female series celebrating 100 years since women got the vote, perhaps they are all vetoing their pay packets for the greater good of spreading the feminist message?

Hmm.

According to reports, former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe is by far the highest earner, taking home a sizable £100,000 for her stint in the house.

But despite being the big-bucks celebrity of this year’s series, she’s still managed to secure far less than past housemates, including Katie Price who took home £400,000, the late David Gest who took home £600,000 and twins Jedward who are believed to have pocketed a tidy £500,000.

It’s unclear how much Ann’s housemates – Jess Impiazzi, Malika Haqq, Amanda Barrie, Ashley James, Maggie Oliver, India Willoughby and Rachel Johnson – are earning, comparatively.

However, the wages fall to around £10,000 for the lesser-known stars, so it’s estimated that Jess, Ashley and Maggie could be at the lower end of the scale, while Rachel, India, Amanda and Malika – who isn’t known as much as the others in the UK but her friendship with BFF Khloe Kardashian has earned her a following – are likely to be higher.

It’s not known how much the men have been paid – although, given the theme of the series, we’re presuming they’ll be no ginormous pay gap.

Those male stars rumoured to be heading into the house tonight include former footballer John Barnes, Love Island star Jonny Mitchell, RuPaul’s drag race star Courtney Act, controversial comedian Dapper Laughs, former professional ballet dancer Wayne Sleep and Boyzone star Shane Lynch.

It’s a good job that show bosses have somehow managed to cut down on the pay packets, seeing as this series is thought to be one of the most lavish houses yet, with no expenses spared when it came to the decorating.

Of the stylish bedrooms, sumptuous bathrooms and the outside sauna, a show insider told The Sun: ‘Producers pulled out all the stops to make sure this year’s house is the quirkiest and plushest viewers and housemates will have seen.

‘This series is a special one. They wanted the house to be a standout one.’
