Matt Chapman quits Dancing On Ice following backlash

Dancing On Ice voiceover Matt Chapman has quit the show following a backlash on social media.

The horse racing commentator took the voiceover reins from late legendary broadcaster Tony Gubba, but has recently confirmed he’s leaving following the first show.

Speaking to The Sun Online, Matt said: ‘I’ve decided to hang up my skates, leave the rink and return to the turf and I wish the show the best of luck for the rest of the run.’

This year’s Dancing On Ice kicked off last Sunday, seeing contestants like Brooke Vincent, Kem Cetinay and Donna Air all don their skates.

Matt’s voiceover and one-liners were met with mixed responses from viewers, which is believed to have played a part in his decision.

A source stated: ‘Matt decided he couldn’t make his diary quite work as he thought.

‘He’s a big character and a talented sports commentator but he had some mixed reviews in the first show, and he told ITV that perhaps it wasn’t for him after all.’

Matt previously made a name for himself presenting Racing Post, At The Races and the Racing Channel.

Following the show’s return on Sunday, many viewers took to social media to express how they were ‘disappointed’ with the voiceover change.

One user wrote: ‘Bring back the original voiceover.’

Another said: ‘The voiceover/commentator guy on #DancignOnIce is just too annoying.’

A spokesperson for ITV told Metro.co.uk, ‘We can confirm that Matt Chapman has left the show, and wish him all the very best and look forward to him reporting at ITV Racing at Warwick this weekend.’
