The votes are in and it’s official: Most Americans think Donald Trump‘s first year as president was a disaster.

A new poll has found that people have branded the year a failure by a 53-to-40-percent margin.

Worst still, many feel as though he’s divided the country.

Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, said: ‘The first-year grades for Trump are not good. He remains with his base intact and not much else.

‘People remain doubtful in the institutions of our government, doubtful in how he’s communicating things and how he’s handling things. It’s not a pretty picture for the president after the first year.’

However, there is some good news for Trump. A lot of people do believe he’s done positive things for the US economy.

In addition, his handling of ISIS has been praised (though, that’s just this poll).

It comes as Trump deals with a record-breaking approval rating low of 39 per cent.

Figures from Realclearpolitics.com show Trump lost ground with his own supporters, with 58 per cent of those polled thinking American is heading in the wrong direction.

And less than half (45 per cent) were positive about Mr Trump’s handling of the economy, despite it performing extremely well since he took office. Around 45 per cent of Trump voters say they are worse off a year into his presidency, with 35 per cent saying they’ve done well out of it.

But don’t be mistaken in thinking these poor figures are enough to oust him from office (especially as his physician just said he’s fit to work this the rest of his term and another after that).
