Could Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor be stranded without the Tardis in the first episode of Doctor Who when it returns?

The 11th series isn’t slated to run until at least autumn 2018, but speculation is already mounting about early storylines.

Jodie’s Doctor first appeared at Christmas, when she emerged from a cloud of smoke on planet Earth as the Tardis had crash landed while regenerating.

The Thirteenth Doctor’s Tardis then exploded, which has led fan theorists to speculate about whether the Time Lord could be left stranded on Earth early on in the series.

Without the Doctor’s strengths of time and space travel, the series could have a more naturalistic feel, with a focus on the present day.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Doctor has been stranded on planet Earth. In the 1970s the third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee, had his Tardis disabled by the Time Lords – but the real reason was a budget cut by the BBC.

And after landing the prized role following ‘months’ of auditions, Jodie admitted recently that she didn’t know the plotline of the Christmas special, so she was as surprised as the rest of us when the show aired.

The actress appeared at the very end of the Christmas special as Peter Capaldi bowed out, and his incarnation regenerated. It followed emotional scenes in the Tardis as Capaldi delivered his final monologue before declaring ‘I let you go.’

Jodie, meanwhile, began her time on the show with a shocked expression as she uttered her first words: ‘Oh brilliant!’ before attempting to take control of the Tardis before it crash landed.

Sadly we’ve got most of 2018 to get through before we’ll get any answers.

Doctor Who returns to the BBC in autumn 2018.
