She might be making a big impact in the Celebrity Big Brother house – but Courtney Act was busy impressing viewers long before that – or indeed RuPaul’s Drag Race – came along.
Because in the wake of Courtney – aka Shane Jenek’s – new-found status as a CBB favourite, that footage of when she was a contestant on the 2003 series of Australian Idol has emerged.
And she’s looking – and sounding – pretty impressive – in the almost 15-year-old clip.
The footage sees Courtney sitting backstage, wearing a slip dress and sporting tousled hair as the presenter addresses viewer questions as to whether she is a ‘real girl’ – leading her to quip: ‘I’m an unreal girl’ – before taking to the stage to perform.
She goes on to try and impress the judges with a sassy rendition of You Don’t Own Me – and seems to succeed, despite them having some issues with her voice.
‘The reality is, you’re a great entertainer,’ Courtney is told. ‘I actually believe that – am I crazy?’
Despite the plaudits, Courtney sadly didn’t make it to the top 12, making it through her semi-final heat as a wildcard contender but falling short at the final hurdle.
It’s possible, however, that the reality star might just do better on Celebrity Big Brother – with Ladbrokes offering odds of just 5-6 on Courtney walking out of the house as the series winner on February 2.
Celebrity Big Brother continues on Channel 5 on Friday night at 9pm with a double eviction.
