Crock-Pot and This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman have been forced to defend slow cookers after the drama’s recent tragic storyline involving the popular kitchen item.

On Thursday Jack Pearson looked set to meet his maker when a faulty slow cooker given to him by his neighbour George started a fire in his home.

Although Jack thought he had turned the Crock-Pot off before leaving the room, the switch sparked up and set fire to a tea towel.

The fire spread through the kitchen with no smoke alarm to alert Jack to the blaze.

Viewers were freaking out over the cause of the fire and joked on social media that the scene made them suddenly averse to Crock-Pots.

Crock-Pot began to reassure fans on Twitter that they ‘stand by the safety of our products’, but they also admitted that they were just as gutted as the viewers about Jack’s fate.

We’re trying to ease the ? but we know it’s hard. Seriously though, @CrockPotCares stands by the safety of our products. We saw that you recently started getting in the kitchen and we would love to send you one of our AMAZING slow cookers and our fave recipes ♥.

The company also released a statement about the episode to calm fans down, saying: ‘All Crock-Pot slow cookers exceed all internal testing protocols and all applicable industry safety standards and regulations as verified by independent third-party testing labs.

‘For nearly 50 years, with over 100 million Crock-Pots sold, we have never received any consumer complaints similar to the fictional events portrayed in last night’s episode. In fact, the safety and design of our product renders this type of event nearly impossible.’

This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman also stepped into the fray with a tweet.

Taking a moment to remind everyone that it was a 20 year old fictional crockpot with an already funky switch? Let's not just lump all those lovely hardworking crockpots together. #ThisIsUs

He said: ‘Taking a moment to remind everyone that it was a 20 year old fictional crockpot with an already funky switch? Let’s not just lump all those lovely hardworking crockpots together.’

Fogelman also told EW: ‘I just literally just sent out a tweet — because I was reading this morning the reactions to the episode — reminding everybody that this was a fictional Crock-Pot with a faulty switch that was 20 years old. So, I don’t think the entire Crock-Pot community should be blamed for this.’

We weren’t expecting this (slow-cooked) beef this year.

Side note: We have to ask – is the offer of a free Crock-Pot still open? Because…totally hit us up.
