After a busy weekend hosting the Grammys, James Corden returned to The Late Late Show Monday night to recap his experience and get back to work. One of his first orders of business? Addressing a viral complaint about the gala from U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. Apparently, Haley wasn’t a fan of the bit in which Hillary Clinton and other celebrities read passages from Fire and Fury. “I have always loved the Grammys but to have artists read the Fire and Fury book killed it,” Haley wrote. “Don’t ruin great music with trash. Some of us love music without the politics thrown in it.”

The pre-recorded segment drew the most applause of the night—and Corden, understandably, does not seem eager to make any apologies.

“I guess Nikki only liked the other nonpolitical parts of the Grammys,” Corden quipped. “You know, Kendrick Lamar’s performance about police violence, or U2’s performance about immigration in front of the Statue of Liberty. You know, lighthearted, nonpolitical stuff.” And if we’re talking about things that are inappropriately “thrown in” to various institutions, Corden’s got his own suggestion: “Well, Nikki Haley, you can tell your boss, some of us love politics without the Twitter meltdowns thrown in.”

Another person who didn’t love the bit? Donald Trump Jr., who tweeted, “Getting to read a #fakenews book excerpt at the Grammys seems like a great consolation prize for losing the presidency. #GrammyAwards.”

“You’ve got to give him credit,” Corden said. “If anyone knows anything about consolation prizes, it’s Donald Trump’s second favorite child. At least you’re not Tiffany. Eric Trump would have responded, but he’s not allowed to stay up past 7:30.”
