Actress Rose McGowan has described for the first time how she was allegedly sexually assaulted by film producer Harvey Weinstein.

McGowan, who has been one of Weinstein's most vocal accusers, claims she was "raped" by the movie mogul during the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in 1997.

Writing about the alleged incident in her new memoir Brave, the former Charmed star said she was summoned to a hotel suite by Weinstein, whom she refers to only as "the monster", after they met at a film screening.

According to newspaper reviews of the book, McGowan said she thought she was going to "plot out the grand arc" of her career but claimed Weinstein pushed her into a room with a Jacuzzi and pulled off her clothes.

She wrote: "My clothes are getting peeled off me. I back into the wall, but there's nowhere to go."

McGowan said she froze "like a statue" before Weinstein allegedly assaulted her in the Jacuzzi.

"I felt so dirty," she added.

"I had been so violated and I was sad to the core of my being."

McGowan, who reportedly describes Weinstein in the book as looking like a "melted pineapple", said she was later driven to a photo shoot for the film Phantoms and told a co-star where she had been.

According to the memoir, the actor responded: "Goddamn it. I told him to stop doing that."

McGowan does not name the co-star in the book but she has previously claimed on Twitter it was Ben Affleck.

The Batman actor has said the allegations against Weinstein made him "sick".

McGowan reportedly reached a $100,000 settlement with Weinstein but later spoke out, saying she had been "silenced for 20 years" and had been "harassed" and "maligned".

Weinstein, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 80 women, has vehemently denied any allegation of non-consensual sex.
