The Discovery lost its captain in episode 13 of Netflix‘s hugely compelling Star Trek series.

And, whether you loved him or loathed him, Gabriel Lorca’s exit has left a swaggering, roguish hole in the cast… for the time being.

But, it seems that we may not have seen the end of Jason Isaac’s shadowy character, as the 54-year-old actor teased fans haven’t seen the last of him.

Sitting down to speak with Variety about all things Trek, he admitted that he’d ‘be all ears’ if a decent story line came around for a Lorca return.

Speaking about his decision to commit to Netflix and CBS’ new series, he explained: ‘I said yes to a fantastic story. You never quite know with television because it’s written week by week. I thought the writers really delivered a fabulous, interesting story, and for me as an actor, I had just a banquet every scene.’

He cheekily tagged on the teaser, adding: ‘If they came up with a great story [for a return], I would be all ears.’

It comes after the actor exited the series in a typically dramatic Sci-Fi way, being impaled on a sword and thrown into the heart of the ISS Charon’s Mycelial Sphere – it looked like it hurt a lot.

His comments in the interview may come as a surprise to some fans after it seemed that Jason was bowing out from the role forever when he responded to a question from After Trek host Matt Mira.

The TV writer and host asked: ‘Is anyone ever dead in Star Trek?’

Jason’s reply was pretty emphatic…

Yes yes. Me me. I've kicked the bucket, I've shuffled off my mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible. I. Am. An. Ex. Captain.

If that’s not a statement then we don’t know what is.

What we do know is the actor is pretty happy with his story arc over series one of the show, and he’s happy to be leaving the Discovery in Kelpian hands (sort of).

Farewell, Lorca (for now).
