Even viewers who aren’t diehard followers of NBC’s hit drama This Is Us are probably know by now that the event that the whole show has been leading up to—the death of family patriarch Jack Pearson, played by Milo Ventimiglia—finally happened, and it’s all a Crock-Pot’s fault. Pearson’s demise came at the hand of a faulty slow-cooker that started a fire in his house, leading to death, heartache, and Crock-Pot creating a new Twitter account to try to do some damage control. Ahead of the Super Bowl, This Is Us released a brand new promo for Sunday night’s episode, featuring Jack back from the dead and talking about the importance of getting together with family for this one special day.
“The big game is fast approaching, and for many of us this day brings an opportunity to gather with friends and family, loved ones that we don’t get to see all that often,” Ventimiglia says in the video, while strolling around on theThis Is Us set. “But in 2018, gathering with friends and family is, well, it’s not as easy as what it used to be, you know, the country’s divided and sometimes that can make it tough to find common ground,” he continues while taking a sip of some fruit-infused water.
“This year—this year, I think we should all take a deep breath, find the ability to forgive, and remind ourselves there is no difference so great that we can’t overcome it,” he finishes, while spooning chili out of—gasp—a brand-new Crock-Pot. But, as he says, now is a time for forgiveness, for bringing people and kitchen appliances together to face our differences while we wait for our Crock-Pots to slowly simmer up some comfort food. . . while also keeping an eye on them.
