Juan Pablo Is Delighted that Arie Was an Even Worse Bachelor than Him

Juan Pablo Galavis might forever be associated with the words “I love fucking you, but I don’t know you.” But by his calculations, Arie Luyendyk Jr. has still bested him for the title of worst Bachelor ever.
Last week, Season 22’s Bachelor finale shocked fans when Arie proposed to Rebecca Kufrin, but broke off the engagement weeks later to give things a shot with runner-up Lauren Burnham. The episode earned Arie a rare and unenviable spot in the Bachelor Nation canon—one that at least one of his Bachelor comrades is greeting with a smile, and a sigh of relief.
“I feel bad for him,” Juan Pablo recently told Entertainment Tonight. After all, he also knows a thing or two about being reviled. In his own finale, Juan Pablo sent Clare Crawley home after muttering something extremely offensive to her—words that were later discovered to be, “I love fucking you, but I don’t know you”—and convincing her to stay on the show. As Clare left following her elimination, she told Juan Pablo, “I would never want my children having a father like you.” Later, Juan Pablo offered a tepid non-proposal to eventual winner Nikki Ferrell—one that included the words “I like you a lot.”
Looking back on his season, Juan Pablo said, “I see all the time I spent with the girls. Obviously you spend like 40 hours with a girl. . . like, total.” That, presumably, also made things difficult for Arie: “Maybe he went out with her and he was like, ‘Wow, is the other girl the one I want?’” Juan Pablo guessed. “You know, and that’s what I guess he did.”
When E.T.’s Keltie Knight suggested Arie might have dethroned Juan Pablo as the most hated bachelor in history, the Season 18 bachelor replied, “I guess so. Great!”
“I always remember what Nikki’s dad told me,” Juan Pablo added of his season, quoting something Ferrell’s father had said: “‘If you’re going to propose to my daughter, you’re 100 percent sure you’re going to marry her.’ And for me it was very hard, because I have a daughter, and I was like, ‘I think the same way as you do. I hope the guy that proposes to my daughter is going to marry her, and right now, I just need to get to know her better.’”
When Knight brought up the rumor that Arie had broken up with his then-girlfriend in order to become the next Bachelor, Juan Pablo became more confident in the notion that Arie’s got him beat for worst Bachelor in history. “He smashed me!” Juan Pablo said, with a hint of glee. Perhaps the real moral here is that Becca and Clare really should meet for drinks sometime.
