Some This Morning viewers have claimed the competition is a ‘fix’ after it was revealed a winner was a guest who previously appeared on the show, but ITV have offered an explanation.

Hosted by Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, the show played a short segment which showed This Morning competition winners expressing their shock and persuading others why they should enter.

Many viewers however raised flags when a woman appeared on the reel who looked familiar, having appeared on the show as a guest earlier this week.

Joy Smith appeared on the show on Tuesday March 13, where she explained how she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Speaking on the show about winning the competition, Joy said: ‘I thought she was joking. She was on the phone for about an hour trying to convince me because I thought it was a joke. I couldn’t believe it.

‘It hasn’t really sunk in because it just feels surreal. I can’t believe I’ve won it.’

Many viewers noticed the double appearance, claiming the competition is fixed.

Metro.co.uk reached out to ITV, with a spokesperson stating: ‘Joy was the winner of an ITV competition back in January and This Morning then later read about her amazing personal story in the press on her battle with cancer so we invited her on the show to share her story with viewers.

‘We were aware of her competition win when we invited her on the show and her compelling story received great feedback from viewers.’

You can catch This Morning weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
