Amazon Studios has closed a first-look deal with Mythos, a new company established by long-time producing partners Sean Daniel and Jason Brown of The Sean Daniel Company (Expanse, The Witcher) and Bad Robot veteran Kathy Lingg (Westwood, Person of Interest) .

Launched at the beginning of 2018, Mythos — a film and TV company with a streaming focus — aims to attract high-level creative talent and to concentrate on globally recognized intellectual properties from the world of fiction, video games, comic books, anime and more. The bulk of the company’s development for Amazon Studios will be via the studio’s event series division launched a year ago to generate big scope, big event genre series — hourlong science fiction, action, fantasy and horror series.

Launching global genre drama hits has been a top priority for Amazon, which has ramped up development with such high-profile titles as Lord Of The Ringsand Ringworld and has beefed up its talent roster, signing overall deals with The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman and Stranger Things’ Justin Doble.

Daniel and Brown are executive producers of Syfy’s praised space drama The Expanse, which is heading into its third season, and the high-profile series adaptation of The Witcher book and gaming franchise, which is in development at Netflix.

Lingg spent a decade at J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, working on such series as Westworld, 11/22/63, Person of Interest and Fringe. She oversaw TV development for Bad Robot until she segued to a producing role at the Warner Bros. TV-based company in 2015. Lingg and Daniel had worked together in features 20 years ago, which led to her partnering with him and Brown.

“Mythos was born out of our love of the creative process and our desire to support world-class creators in telling stories that resonate on a global scale,” said the Mythos partners in a joint statement. “The chance to work alongside a network with such an ambitious mandate and near-limitless creative parameters is a rare privilege.”

Daniel, whose career spans four decades, was the youngest ever president of production at Universal Pictures. During his tenure, he shepherded such hits as Back to the Future, Animal House, Brazil, Sixteen Candles, The Blues Brothers and Field of Dreams. As a producer, his films have grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. They include The Mummy franchise, Dazed and Confused and Tombstone.

For the last decade Daniel had been partnered with Brown at The Sean Daniel Company where Brown oversaw the company’s film and television slate. Their next film project is Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, directed by Andre Ovredal, which they are producing with Guillermo Del Toro.

At Mythos, Brown will handle day-to-day management as president.
